Special 26-Truly Special

After A Wednesday the expectations from Niraj Pandy was obviously high and Special 26 is surely a worthy follow up of the earlier one. He definitely proved once again that without much action scene a smooth thriller can be made… And you don’t even need a typical “bad guy” here. Yes, this one is a mind boggling thriller where no one is a villain.

This movie is about a group of conmen who targets rich businessman and corrupt ministers in the disguise of either CBI or Income Tax Department. Akshay Kumar as Ajay, Anupam Kher as Sharmaji well accompanied by Rajesh Sharma and Kishore Kadam make a perfect team.

The movie started with a fake raid on the 26th of Jan 1987 in a house of corrupt politician in Delhi. Inspector Ranveer Singh (Jimmy Sheirgill) was conned by them and helped them executing the whole operation which let him to suspension and humiliation along with his assistant Divya Dutta. He wanted to take the revenge and seek for help to a real CBI officer Waseem Khan (Manoj Bajpai). I am not going to ruin the charm by telling the story; but after a long cat and mouse run between the four conmen and the real CBI and Police, the end twist was amazing.
The love angle of Akshay and Kajol Agarwal sometimes have taken the pace of the movie but the director has surely taken care of the matter not to overdo that. The glimpses of " Catch me if you can" or "Oceans 11" are depicted somewhere or other; but it's not a disastrous remake of any Hollywood thriller for sure. Thanks to the director for this. The storyline is totally "Desi" and that's the USP here. No cool gadgets, no fight scenes on train roofs or inside an airplane (ehhmm ehmm… no comparison intended) but still this is one of the best Indian thrillers I have seen ever… for sure!!
The sarcastic dialogues used are very common but they are used in such a way that you cannot just help and laugh your heart out! Anupam Kher’s “Asli Power Dil me hooti hain,Divya Dutta’s “Asli kaam to  ye kar rahe hain, hum to yuhi…….”, Manoj Vajpayees, “Ghar nahi chal raha hain,  kaal se riswaat  lena shuru  karu?” and the most hilarious one from one interviewee," I want to do my country"… Are simply gonna roam around your mind even after you’ll leave the theatre.
Now why it's called Special 26 if there are four of them? Well you have to wait till the end to know this catch…!! This is a MUST WATCH for me… Hope it’ll rock you as well. Go for it guys!!
